Thousands of students come from other parts of Gujarat to Surat, the second largest city in Gujarat, to study at its schools and universities. The BAPS Swaminarayan Chhatralaya is a technologically advanced hostel that provides an environment for students to grow spiritually and academically. It is on the banks of the Tapi River, located in the heart of the city. It was inaugurated in 1991. The hostel provides affordable room and board for college students with delicious food, clean rooms, and a beautiful campus. Students are encouraged to follow basic moral disciplines. Sadhus oversee the students and provide basic academic and spiritual guidance. Students start their day off with a morning aarti and are encouraged to attend daily sabhas in the evening.
