The Mandir Mahotsav in 1999 marked the opening of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Nairobi, the first of its kind in the region. The 4-day celebration was filled with a variety of cultural programs filled with colorful performances. The Nagar Yatra, or cultural procession, through the streets of Nairobi attracted thousands of locals to witness the aura of Indian festivities. A Vishwashanti Maha Yagna, or special prayer for world peace and harmony, was held on the third day. The Mandir Mahotsav, or Mandir Inauguration, on the fourth day was witnessed by thousands of people from around the world.
