On April 2, 2025, members of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha gathered at the Texas State Capitol’s Legislative Conference Center in Austin for “Strength in Unity: Elevating Texas Together Day.” This special event brought together BAPS members, public officials, and civic leaders from across the state to honor the values of cultural unity, public service, and civic engagement.
Throughout the day, attendees celebrated the rich heritage of India while highlighting the spirit of togetherness that defines BAPS’s mission. Delegations of BAPS volunteers met with more than 20 Texas State Representatives, over 10 Senators, and over 25 legislative staff members to share how BAPS-led initiatives in health, education, and disaster relief are positively impacting communities across Texas. These personal conversations emphasized the event’s core message—strengthening unity through greater understanding and service.
A major highlight was the formal recognition of the day by the Texas House of Representatives, which adopted a resolution honoring April 2 as “Strength in Unity: Elevating Texas Together Day.” Legislators expressed appreciation for BAPS’s long-standing contributions to the state, commending its role in fostering faith, family values, and a commitment to selfless service. Leaders praised BAPS volunteers for setting an example in civic responsibility and compassion through community outreach, food drives, educational initiatives, and humanitarian relief efforts.
The evening program transformed the Legislative Conference Center into a vibrant celebration of Indian culture and Texan unity. Families from the Indian diaspora, local residents, and civic representatives were welcomed by BAPS volunteers and enjoyed traditional Indian vegetarian cuisine and lively conversations in a warm and inclusive atmosphere.
Throughout the evening, speakers shared reflections on the importance of preserving culture while contributing to society. Shrina Patel from Houston shared, “A traditional stone-carved mandir like the one in Stafford allows me to share India’s traditions, festivals, and culture with friends and colleagues.” Texas State Representative Matt Shaheen (District 66) added, “BAPS has a great history of community service dedicated to peace and harmony. It strives to care for society, families, and individuals, making a positive impact in Texas.”
The program concluded with a renewed sense of unity among attendees, many of whom expressed feeling more connected to both their Indian American identity and the wider Texas community. Inspired by His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj’s guidance to celebrate diversity and serve others, the event successfully demonstrated that unity and service can elevate entire communities. “Strength in Unity: Elevating Texas Together Day” served as a powerful reminder that honoring one’s heritage and contributing to society go hand in hand in building a more inclusive and harmonious Texas.
