BAPS encourages children to participate in local food drives by collecting canned and packaged dry foods for soup kitchens and shelters. After collecting non-perishable food items from members in the community, children distribute these items at local soup kitchens themselves. The latter part of this process teaches them to respect people from all walks of life. Similar toy drives are arranged for children to help their peers. Hundreds of toys have been collected and distributed through BAPS and BAPS Charities in communities around the world. Children organize and execute these campaigns under the direct supervision of their activity coordinators. These initiatives teach children to appreciate what they have and to share with those in need. Pramukh Swami Maharaj has taken an interest in these programs by encouraging children to visit inner-city slums and distribute food and toys for children. Thousands of people are fed through these programs. The recent Mid-afternoon Meal program organized by BAPS and the Delhi Municipal Government supplied warm meals to more than 3,000 school children and teens.
