The foundation for cultural nourishment is ethnic language instruction. Language is a medium to transmit culture to future generations. BAPS utilizes interactive and engaging methods to teach its native language of Gujarati. Gujarati classes take place at BAPS centers across different parts of India, North America, Africa, Europe, and the Far East. Special annual summer training camps also dedicate time to teach children their native tongue. An initiative that earned wide recognition was the Gujarati Spelling Bee hosted by the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha in association with the Gujarat Samachar in Houston, Texas. This competition required the correct spelling of Gujarati words and motivated children to become involved with their language instruction.
