Approximately 150 children, accompanied by 70 well-trained volunteers, from Leicester and other centres in the Midlands, enjoyed two days of spirituality, learning and fun through various team-building activities at Beaumanor Hall in Woodhouse, Leicestershire, on 15 and 16 July 2023.
Beaumanor Hall, a picturesque Victorian country estate nestled in 34 acres of serene countryside, offers versatile facilities for youth training, conferences, and residential programmes, with a focus on outdoor educational experiences catering to children of all age groups.
A variety of activities, including an obstacle course, rounders, cricket, and many others, provided excitement and created a platform for the children to connect with one another. This fostered understanding and respect in a relaxed and practical setting. Water-based activities offered a refreshing break from the sweltering summer heat and served as a fitting conclusion to the trip.
Throughout the two days, attendees developed their creativity, resilience, introspection, independence and courage – essential traits for navigating and embracing life’s challenges. This experience boosted their self-confidence and inspired collaborative problem-solving approaches.
The children also benefitted from motivational messages and guidance delivered by swamis, which enhanced their learning experiences. They also participated in and learnt more about a variety of Hindu traditions, such as puja, arti and thal, and participated in these together.
Jinisha, aged 12, from Nottingham, shared, “It was wonderful to make so many new friends and learn new skills. I can’t wait to try some of these when we go back to school after the summer holidays. The sanchalikas [volunteers] were so friendly and encouraging. I can’t wait to come back next year!”
