Religious Studies students from Fresno Pacific University, accompanied by Professor Darren Duerksen, visited the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Fresno, California, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, to gain a deeper understanding of Hinduism through an immersive, first-hand experience.
During the visit, foundational aspects of Hinduism were thoughtfully presented and discussed. Students learned about Hinduism as a monotheistic tradition expressed through diverse forms, its ancient origins, and its key scriptures. The significance of rituals in fostering discipline and spirituality was explained, along with the role of murtis as sacred representations that help devotees focus their devotion.
The presentation also introduced the BAPS way of life, highlighting values such as faith, service, humility, and moral living. In addition, students were informed about the humanitarian initiatives of BAPS Charities, including efforts in community service, health awareness, and disaster relief.
Students actively engaged in the session, asking insightful questions and participating in meaningful dialogue. They appreciated the opportunity to experience the mandir environment firsthand, with many describing the visit as enriching—gaining not only knowledge but also a deeper appreciation for the depth, diversity, and lived practices of Hinduism.
