Devotees from across the UK gathered at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Wellingborough, on Sunday 5 April 2026 for the annual Akhand Dhun – a spiritually uplifting day of continuous prayer offered for success, peace, and harmony throughout the world.
The devotional observances commenced in the early hours of the morning, with kishores performing a mahapuja at 5.00am. Inspired by the spiritual legacy of Yogiji Maharaj, this sacred ritual created a serene and devotional foundation for the day.
From 7.00am onwards, devotees arrived steadily to participate in the dhun. The Mandir resonated with the rhythmic chanting of the Swaminarayan Mahamantra as devotees offered prayers and performed pradakshinas at the Akshar Deri, the sacred shrine at the heart of the Mandir. Each act of devotion was offered with heartfelt prayers for the well-being of families, communities, and society at large.
Among those in attendance was Dr Mitbhai Dattani, who travelled from Birmingham with his family. Reflecting on the occasion, he shared, “Coming here every year is something we deeply look forward to. There is a unique peace you feel the moment you walk in; being surrounded by so many people united in prayer and devotion is truly humbling. We left feeling spiritually renewed and grateful.”
This year’s Akhand Dhun carried additional significance as devotees prepare to welcome His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj to the UK later this year. The theme for the year, ‘Satsangnu Vatavaran Vadharvu’ – to nurture the spiritual environment around us – offered a timely reminder of the importance of unity, collective devotion, and mutual appreciation within the satsang fellowship.
Krushali Kataria, who travelled from London, reflected, “The theme this year really struck a chord with me. It is easy to focus on our own spiritual progress, but Mahant Swami Maharaj is reminding us that satsang grows when we genuinely appreciate and uplift one another. That is a message I will be taking home and reflecting upon.”
Throughout the day, the Mandir remained immersed in devotion, with a continuous flow of chanting, prayer, pradakshinas, and seva, as devotees collectively offered their prayers for success, peace, and harmony for all.
Adding to the spirit of the day, a group of 15 cyclists rode more than 100 kilometres from BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Chigwell, whilst 10 devotees undertook a pad-yatra – a pilgrimage on foot – covering the same distance, with both groups arriving in Wellingborough by the evening.
Parth Mistry, a lead volunteer in Wellingborough, shared, “Seeing so many devotees come through the Mandir with one purpose in their hearts is something that never loses its meaning. It was a privilege to welcome so many families from near and far, and our team of volunteers is honoured to serve in whatever way we can.”
