BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Manchester, welcomed more than 200 visitors on Sunday 13 September 2025 as part of Heritage Open Days – England’s largest festival of history and culture, in which venues across the country invite the public to explore local heritage and community spaces.
The Mandir was open from 10.00am to 6.00pm, with volunteers on hand throughout the day to provide an informative and welcoming experience for visitors. Guests were offered guided tours, cultural presentations, and opportunities to learn more about Hindu values, traditions, and community service.
Many visitors appreciated the peaceful atmosphere and described their time in the sacred space as uplifting and reflective. Children and young volunteers from the Mandir played an active role in the event, delivering short presentations that impressed guests with their confidence and clarity. Guided tours further enhanced the experience, with volunteers answering questions and sharing insights into the Mandir’s history, its values, and its contribution to the local community.
Mayur Patel, a volunteer at the Mandir, shared, “It was a privilege to welcome so many people from the local community. Visitors not only admired the beauty and tranquillity of the Mandir, but also connected with the values of peace, service, and mutual respect that guide our activities. It was heartening to see how these universal principles resonated with them.”
Visitors and local residents also shared their reflections on the day:
“I once attended the primary school that previously stood on this site. To see that the space continues to give back to the community, just as the school once did, filled me with joy.”
“My son’s company provided the scaffolding during the Mandir’s construction. I’m so proud that he contributed to such a beautiful place that helps shape character and serves the community.”
“I don’t follow any religion, but after experiencing the kindness, warmth and serenity here today, I feel inspired to attend regularly.”
“I noticed people greeting one another with such humility and respect. When it was explained to me, I thought, ‘Wouldn’t the world be a better place if everyone did this?’”
BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Manchester, remains open throughout the year to visitors of all faiths and backgrounds, continuing its commitment to fostering understanding, respect, and harmony within the wider community.
