BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha received the ‘Health & Well-Being’ award at the London Dangoor Awards 2025, for its outstanding service to Greater London’s communities through the BAPS wellNESS project.
The initiative addresses the significant health inequalities faced by British South Asians – who experience higher rates of diabetes, heart disease, and mental health challenges – by promoting practical, sustainable habits that integrate physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
The London Dangoor Awards (formerly known as the London Faith & Belief Community Awards) celebrate the unsung heroes of London’s faith communities, highlighting projects that uplift society through service, compassion, and collaboration. The awards work closely with the Greater London Lieutenancy’s Council on Faith to strengthen connectedness and bring wider recognition to London’s interfaith landscape.
The award was presented at the Royal Society of Medicine by Dr David Dangoor CBE, founder of the Dangoor Education foundation, alongside Bushra Nasir CBE DL, Chair of His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Greater London’s Council on Faith.
Inspired by His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, the BAPS wellNESS project is built upon four core pillars of health: Nutrition, Exercise, Stress Management, and Sleep. The programme empowers individuals of all ages to develop sustainable habits in each of these areas, while highlighting how these practices are further strengthened through spirituality. By integrating evidence-based guidance with spiritual wisdom, BAPS wellNESS encourages participants towards healthier, more balanced lives.
More than 30 volunteers contributed to the project, delivering expert-led talks, interactive workshops, personalised well-being support, and practical resources, including journals, habit trackers, and healthy cookbooks. The initiative has engaged thousands of community members through in-person activities and digital resources. The accompanying webinars have encouraged thousands of participants to cultivate healthier habits and embed positive lifestyle changes.
Speaking after receiving the award on behalf of BAPS, lead volunteer Dr Tanvi Raghvani shared, “This recognition belongs entirely to the volunteers who give their time and expertise to help others. BAPS wellNESS is about empowering our community to take small, meaningful steps towards better health so that each person can lead a more purposeful, joy-filled life.”
