On August 15, 2014, devotees from across the world witnessed a historic event – the Swaminarayan Akshardham Bhumital Pujan ceremony.

Years ago, His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj had expressed his wish to build Akshardham Mahamandir in North America. He has blessed the project at numerous times from India. However, at the age of 93, despite his ailing health, Swamishri travelled from Sarangpur, India to Robbinsville, New Jersey to sanctify the land and to perform the Bhumital Pujan ceremony.

On the morning of August 15, 2014, Swamis, devotees, and well-wishers from across the world came to the Akshardham site to witness this historic event. Swamishri arrived for the pujan at 11:10 am. As a part of the Bhumital pujan, he placed the nidhi khubh in a pit where the murti of Bhagwan Swaminarayan will be installed in future and placed his feet on the ground. He also visited the other khands as Sadguru Pujya Mahant Swami and Sadguru Pujya Ishwarcharan Swami performed the pujan rituals.

Swaminarayan Akshardham aims to uphold Hinduism’s timeless traditions for generations to come and will help bring peace of mind to all. With intricate carvings depicting stories from Hindu scriptures, the intricate details of this Mahamandir will impart countless lessons from our rich cultural and spiritual heritage to all.
