The Friendship Ambassadors Foundation hosted the 10th annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations on January 19-20, 2012. The international conference connected youth from all over the world to share ideas on youth-driven initiatives to achieve the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). This year’s conference theme was “UNWIRED Generation: Youth Leveraging Technology for the MDGs & Sustainability”.

BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha sent a delegation of 15 youth to attend the conference. The delegates had the opportunity to network with speakers, international NGOs and individuals from all over the world to share ideas on topics related to the Millennium Development Goals.

The conference hosted panels and workshops led by emerging young professionals from around the world. Panelists and speakers discussed their projects, social entrepreneurship ventures, and the arduous journey from start to finish. The topics covered during the conference included youth and technology, sustainable development, health, education, empowerment of women, social entrepreneurship and global partnerships. The four workshop sessions engaged delegates in detailed discussions. BAPS participants found it fascinating to see the variety of work, effort and dedication each of the presenters and participating organizations demonstrated.

BAPS delegate Shreya Barot mentioned “It has been a fascinating experience to see all the different forms of humanitarian work being done across the globe, and it proves that the future is indeed bright”.

The conference concluded by giving tomorrow’s leaders a challenge today: to grasp opportunities and create alliances with fellow partners to make real and lasting progress for global development.
