Devotion to God from a Young Age
Once, Mulji was engrossed in his devotion. His father saw him and said, "Mulji, such devotion should be practiced only when you are old. This is the time for you to eat, drink and be merry." Mulji did not utter a word when he heard this. He went out of the house.
After sometime Mulji returned and told his father, "You asked me to worship God in old age, but I just went around the village and found that all old people of the village are sitting in the square and are busy gossiping. None of them remembers God. So if we rely on the promise of old age we might lose our precious youth. How can we rely on our body?" Bholanath's eyes opened when he heard these sentences of Mulji which were full of deep understanding. He rejoiced in his heart of hearts and stopped putting obstacles in the worship of Bhakta Mulji.
Attributes of One Who Has an Aversion for the Panchvishays
Thereupon Nityãnand Swãmi asked again, "How can one recognise someone who has an aversion for the panchvishays?"
Shriji Mahãrãj answered, "A person with an aversion for the panchvishays can be recognised by the following characteristics: When he receives sumptuous food, he would eat it, but he would not enjoy it as much as he would enjoy eating simple food. In fact, he would be troubled by it. Also, he would become upset wearing fine clothes; he would not enjoy them as much as he would enjoy wearing tattered, coarse clothes. In fact, his mind becomes troubled by fine clothes. If he were to receive a luxurious bed, or if someone were to honour him, in fact, if he were to receive any sort of pleasant object, his mind would become troubled by it; in no way would he be pleased by it. On seeing such a person, one should realise, 'He has an aversion for the vishays.' "
