In the evening assembly, the Chancellor of Seton University, Mr. Thomas S. Peterson and Chairman Mr. Sharkey had come to welcome Swamishri, on behalf of the university. In his speech, Mr. Peterson said, "Since Swamishri was unable to visit our university, we have brought the university here. We believe him to be an internationally recognized 'Man of Peace.' We believe knowledge and love to be equal to service. For this, there is a need for a man who is an ideal leader. In Pramukh Swami, we see that living ideal. He has brought people nearer to each other. He has created an environment devoid of hatred. The values for which we established our university, he has instilled in the people. For this, we are very grateful and you have set a living example for us."
Swamishri then blessed the gathering: "Today, everyone craves for peace. But discord and conflict arise from differences of opinion and ego. Peace will reign if we live by the injunctions and ideals prescribed by God. We believe, falsely, that power, money and weapons can bring peace. But peace can only be obtained by a religious life. There will also be peace if we read the scriptures, observe the scriptural rules and offer seva.
"There is atma and Paramatma in everyone. If we bear this in mind, then there will be no reason to inflict pain to others. A true Sadhu's life and work is for altruism, to guide others on the path of devotion to God and for redemption. God exists and we should accept His debt and mercy on us by observing His ideals. Therein lies peace."
