The BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha believes that it is through the applied research of ancient texts and philosophy that spirituality is strengthened. Bhagwan Swaminarayan encouraged sadhus and devotees to pursue higher education, sending many of His paramhansas to study in Kashi, then the epicenter of Vedanta studies. Today, Pramukh Swami Maharaj and BAPS continue in that tradition by helping sadhus and youths pursue advanced education in Sanskrit, Vedanta, Nyaya and other schools of thoughts. Three research centers in Gujarat, the Akshardham Center for Applied Research in Social Harmony, the Sanskrit Pathshala in Sarangpur and the School of Philosophy in Sarangpur, enable scholars and researchers to meet and discuss their work regularly. The research centers also host classes and lecture series on various academic topics and, most importantly, have graduated students with doctorate and master’s degrees from affiliated, accredited institutions of higher learning. One such scholar is the renowned academic P. Bhadresh Swami, PhD, who has produced the first complete Bhashya on the Prasthrantraya in over 700 years.
