Total Knee Replacement (TKR)
Knee pain and arthritis and stiffness is treated with a variety of methods. This includes medications, physical therapy and exercises, weight loss methods and surgery to replace the worn out cushions between the joint spaces.
It is when all other medications and therapies fail that patient may consider a Total Knee Replacement or TKR. This involves replacement of the worn out joint with artificial prosthetic joint.
TKR is a very successful surgery and with proper accompanying physical therapy it can provide much relief. This mimics the original joint and allows a free movement of the joint. Benefits of this operation are remarkable in terms of freedom from pain, improved range of movement of the knees, improved sleep and better quality of living.
When is the Right Time to Undergo a Knee Replacement(TKR) ?
If you're having trouble getting up to answer the phone or walk to your car or your Knee Pain is affecting your day to day life style, it could be the right time to plan for a TKR. A thorough examination by a Joint Replacement expert should confirm if the time for TKR has arrived. If you are dependent on Pain Killers / NSAIDs on regular basis to keep yourself going, you should immediately consult the Joint Replacement expert.
Is There a Way to Avoid Surgery?
In few cases, lifestyle modifications, physiotherapy and expert supervised medication, or phototherapy (which involves injecting a specific fluid to strengthen connective tissue) can help manage some knee problems. However, prolonged delay or declining a necessary knee replacement could result in a less favourable outcome. If you have tried medication, physiotherapy, kitchen remedies and suggestions from friends / neighbours and the knee pain is still holding you back from doing the things - it is time to plan a Knee Replacement Surgery.
What is TKR or Total Knee Replacement
Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery aims to remove the worn out cartilage and fixes the artificial knee consisting of a femoral part, a tibial part and a patellar part. The femoral part replaces the lower end of thigh bone, 'femur'. The tibial component replaces upper end of the leg bone tibia'. The knee cap or patella is also replaced with a prosthesis or artificial knee cap.

Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery
Performed through just a few small incisions, this technique often results in less pain and faster recovery for patients.
Some of the conditions that can be treated using minimally invasive surgery:
-
Herniated disc
-
Degenerative disc disease
-
Spinal stenosis in the lower back
-
Scoliosis
-
Spinal infections
-
Vertebral fractures
Benefits of minimally invasive surgery:
-
Less pain and fewer narcotics needed for pain control
-
Less injury and bruising to tissue
-
Smaller incisions and less scarring
-
Faster recovery
-
Outpatient procedure or shorter hospital stay
-
Less expensive
Our expert team provides the latest non-surgical interventions and surgery, including minimally invasive spine surgery as mentioned. A coordinator works with providers and patients to coordinate treatment from referral through recovery.
Arthroscopy Surgery
Arthroscopy, also termed as arthroscopic surgery, is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used by surgeons to examine, diagnose, envision and treat damages related to the interior of a joint. This procedure is performed using an arthroscope, a type of endoscope that is inserted into the joint through a small incision in the patient’s skin. Arthroscopic procedures are usually carried out either to examine or to treat a range of orthopaedic conditions. These conditions may include torn floating cartilage, torn surface cartilage, ACL reconstruction and trimming damaged cartilage.
he main feature of arthroscopy is that the joint is not completely exposed as compared to the traditional open surgery; and this makes it more beneficial. Under arthroscopy, two small incisions are made to insert the arthroscope and other surgical instruments used in the knee cavity to extract the knee cap. This decreases the trauma to the connective tissue and thereby increases the chances of surgical success; and also reduces the recovery time.
It is specifically beneficial for professional athletes, who suffer from recurrent injuries of knee joints and demand speedy recovery. The smaller incisions result in minimal scarring. The joints are inflated using irrigation fluid to make a surgical space. In this procedure, smaller surgical instruments are used as compared to the traditional instruments. Arthroscopic Surgeons observe the joint area on a video monitor to diagnose the extent of injury and then repair torn joint tissue, such as ligaments and menisci or cartilage.
Arthroscopy is commonly used for joints of the knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist, ankle, foot, and hip. The surgery of the knee using an arthroscope is termed as Knee Arthroscopy Surgery.
Pain Management
Pain is something which we always suffer from, in different conditions. Usually it is treated successfully by rest, medicines, physiotherapy etc. When it becomes recurrent and not responding to routine line of management, it becomes a trouble. We are not able to work to our full ability. People surrounding us cannot see it but we know that small but peculiar and useful movements are also difficult and so life is not to its fullest. Even at times we start thinking whether there is something grossly wrong with our body, in spite of all investigations being normal.
Advanced pain management has answer to many of such conditions. Pain Management works on such conditions to give pain relief without surgery. This is non-invasive that is non-surgical approach to reduce pain, medicine intake and fast resumption of normal life. For those who have secular pain and who have been on opioids for a prolonged duration of time, we really offer an opioid tapering clinic.
