A special afternoon of celebration, titled ‘Diwali Wonderland’, was held at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Wellingborough, on Sunday 5 November 2023. Over 80 children, from the ages of 3 to 13, came together to celebrate the occasions of Diwali - ‘the Festival of Light’- and the Hindu New Year.
The immersive experience included presentations on the five days of Diwali as well as interactive team games explaining the significance of Diwali, the triumph of good over evil. Participants showcased their creative side through painting exercises and traditional decorations, with an entertaining magic show completing the activities. The joyous festivities concluded with the annakut – ‘a mountain of food’ offered to God as a symbol of appreciation and gratitude.
Pinal Patel, a local BAPS volunteer, shared, “Today, children and their parents were able to enjoy this most auspicious time in the Hindu calendar. It was a fun-filled event where our festivals were understood at a deeper level.”
