BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Toronto
The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Toronto marked the beginning of its 20th anniversary celebrations on Sunday, July 26, 2026, with a special commemorative ceremony celebrating nearly two decades of devotion, cultural preservation and community service.
Thousands of devotees, community members, dignitaries and well-wishers gathered at the Mandir to commemorate this significant milestone and reflect upon the Mandir’s journey since its inauguration. The ceremony served as a celebration of the Mandir’s enduring role as a centre of spirituality, culture, volunteerism and service, while officially commencing a year-long series of activities leading up to its 20th anniversary.
A special highlight of the ceremony was the presence of the Hon. Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario, along with provincial and municipal leaders, who joined devotees and community members in recognizing the Mandir’s longstanding contributions to Ontario and Canada.
Over the past two decades, the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Toronto has welcomed individuals and families from across Canada and around the world, providing a place for spiritual growth, cultural learning and community engagement. The Mandir has continued to inspire thousands through its commitment to preserving heritage, strengthening families and serving society through volunteer-driven initiatives.
The anniversary celebrations began with prayers and devotional rituals performed by BAPS Swamis, reflecting upon the vision of His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj and the continued guidance of His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj. Their teachings continue to inspire individuals to lead lives grounded in faith, compassion, humility and selfless service.
As part of the ceremony, the achievements of young children pursuing advanced studies in Sanskrit were recognized. Their accomplishments reflected the Mandir’s continued commitment to encouraging academic excellence while preserving and promoting Canada’s diverse cultural and spiritual heritage.
The ceremony also recognized the inspiring journey of Deputy Chief Chirag Bhatt of Durham Regional Police Service. Having grown up actively involved with the BAPS community and volunteering during the construction of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Toronto, Deputy Chief Bhatt has continued to embody the values of service, leadership and integrity throughout his policing career. His journey was celebrated as an example of how community values can inspire individuals to make meaningful contributions in their professions and society.
The kick-off ceremony also highlighted the humanitarian efforts of BAPS Charities, the charitable arm of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha. For decades, BAPS Charities volunteers across Canada have supported communities through a wide range of initiatives, including health and wellness programs, blood donation drives, food drives, youth and senior programs, environmental activities and support for individuals and families in need.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, BAPS Charities recognized its ongoing partnerships with organizations dedicated to improving the lives of Canadians through charitable contributions.
The first presentation was made to the William Osler Health System Foundation, which supports accessible and exceptional health care for families across Brampton, Etobicoke and surrounding communities. Dr. Frank Martino, President and Chief Executive Officer of William Osler Health System, accepted the contribution on behalf of the organization.
The second presentation was made to the CNIB Foundation, an organization dedicated to removing barriers and empowering individuals who are blind or partially sighted to live full and independent lives. Daniel Moore, Vice President of Philanthropic Partnerships, accepted the contribution on behalf of the organization.
The ceremony was honoured by the presence of distinguished guests, including:

Recognizing the significance of the Mandir’s contributions to the community, Premier Doug Ford shared his appreciation through a social media message highlighting the Mandir’s longstanding commitment to service, inclusion and community building.
“For two decades, BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir has been serving Toronto’s Hindu community while promoting the values of charity by opening its doors to neighbours of all backgrounds across Etobicoke. Through food drives, helping those in need, and connecting young people with the skills they need to succeed in life, the Mandir has made a lasting impact on our community. It was a privilege to join them yesterday to celebrate their 20th anniversary.”
Councillor Vincent Crisanti presented a commemorative scroll recognizing BAPS on the occasion of the kick-off ceremony of its 20th Anniversary celebrations. The scroll acknowledged BAPS for its outstanding commitment to serving and strengthening the community.
