Sarangpur is a village in the Saurashtra district of Gujarat with a population of about 1,800 people. The opportunity for education is overshadowed by the needs of the family in Sarangpur and its neighboring villages. The BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha opened a school in Sarangpur in 2003. The all-boys school offers instruction for grades 5 through 12. The Swaminarayan Gurukul also offers courses in both commerce and science concentrations. There is a hostel owned and operated by the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha for students to live in while the school year is in session. To meet the needs of local families, the tuition is subsidized so students can attend at low costs. Modeled after traditional Vedic ashrams, these Gurukuls teach students everything from education to morals. Gurukuls were institutions where students would learn scriptural knowledge and trade skills, making them well-rounded individuals. The Gurukul format of education is preserved and implemented by the Swaminarayan Gurukul in Sarangpur. Each student is given personalized attention and is inspired to live a moral, spiritual, and ethical life.
