BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir, Kolkata, organised a magnificent Rath Yatra Utsav. This year’s rath yatra had the added attraction of BAPS youths playing a 15 piece Scottish Bagpiper Band. Thousands joined together to pull the huge 35 feet high rath on its journey through the city.

One of these is archanam, which involves offering worship to the murti of God using various puja materials, such as, sandalwood paste (chandan), kumkum (vermilion powder), rice grains, flowers and leaves of holy plants like tulsi, bilva and ankado. Offering devotion in this way brings a devotee closer to God.
