Janmashtami, the day marking the birth of Bhagwan Shri Krishna, was celebrated at BAPS Mandirs across North America.  Celebrations included a cultural program centered on an integral verse from the Bhagwad Gita – Sa Me Priyah.  In this verse Bhagwan Krishna explains, “One who is always content and devoted to God; who has firm conviction and a perfectly still mind; who has dedicated mind and intellect to Me; Such a devotee is dear to Me.”

The Bhagwad Gita famously depicts the spiritual guidance given by Bhagwan Krishna to Arjun, as he faced a moral dilemma during the Mahabharat.  The program highlighted each of the qualities explained in the verse that Bhagwan holds dear.  Through cultural dances, theatrical stage productions and speeches, the audience was taken through a journey exploring other well-known devotees of Bhagwan who exemplified these same qualities.  The program also explored how these values and teachings are very much relevant today.

More importantly, the spiritual discourses demonstrated methods of how each of us can imbibe these values and implement them in our lives.  The program concluded with blessings from His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj.  Pramukh Swami Maharaj continues to inspire such festivals and programs around the world, striving to engage the youth in many such traditional festivals to keep them connected to their values and culture.
