On 29th March 2013, a 16 storey building building collapsed near the Ithnaashri Mosque in Dar-es-salaam, killing and injuring many people. Among the dead, injured or trapped under the rubble were also children attending the Mosque.
BAPS volunteers reached with emergency supplies like water, juice, etc on the site. The volunteers helped with looking for survivors by moving the rubble, helping survivors and moving dead bodies to the ambulances as well as in controlling the crowd gathered around. The BAPS volunteers continued to help at the building collapse site for two days.
On 1st April 2013, BAPS Shree Swaminarayan Sanstha was honoured with a certificate of appreciation for their efforts by the Home Minister of Tanzania in a small ceremony organised by the Ithnaashri community.
