BAPS volunteers from Dar-Es-Salaam gathered goods for donation to the Malaika Orphanage Foundation Center, Kuranaga. Driving out for an hour and a half to the orphanage, the volunteers were met with enthusiasm by the orphans and caretaker Mrs. Najma Manji.
In addition to distribution of the goods and providing food packets, the volunteers entertained the children with a musical performance, a poem recital and also played the Tanzanian national anthem. The goods and foodstuff donated included beans, sugar, cooking oil, flour, rice, biscuits, salt, chocolates, tea leaves, juice, soap, toothpaste and toothbrush, jam, margarine and sphagetti.
The volunteers came to know that one of the children was ill and had been admitted to the local hospital. The volunteers visited this child of 10 at the hospital, personally handed him his gift bag, prayed for his speedy recovery and spent some time with him.
This outreach activity helped the children and also helped the volunteers in being able to spend some time with those less privileged than themselves, and in indicating their concern for the community.
