Substance abuse is very detrimental to individuals’ health and wellness and also strains societal cohesion. In developing countries especially, substance abuse plagues low-income earners and undermines the family unit by exhausting financial resources as well as physical and emotional reserves. Believing substance abuse to be an important human rights issue, the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha has campaigned to raise awareness about and address this major problem.
