Shravan Mas – Balika Parayan was held in BAPS Swaminarayan Vidyamandir – Randesan on 28-08-2016 between 1pm and 3pm. The parayan started with traditional Pothi Yatra where several girls dressed in colourful traditional clothing carried the pothi on their heads. Pothi yatra is tradition in Gujarat where before the parayan, where the sacred book from which the discourse would be delivered, is placed on the head and taken to the place of parayan. With a special arrangement, it is then placed with due respect on “Vyas pith”.
A Balika from standard VIII, Priya Sankhavara did the parayan on “Neelkanth Charitra” in her eloquent voice. The theme song dance was performed. A video presentation on Neelkanth inspired the students. Drama about “Bala Raja” beautifully brought forward the moral of the importance of Education. Vivid presentation of Kamleshwar Math incident and Pibek’s transformation by Neelkanth were also performed by students. The highlight of parayan was the Palkhi Yatra.
The Gandhinagar Balika Karyakers, who come every Saturday to conduct Balika Sabhas for 370 girls, helped to organise and conduct the parayan.
